Taiwan Beef Noodle at a 30 yrs old shop

We wasn't sure what to eat for dinner. When we saw this 30 yrs old shop, FL asked me, want to eat here? Well, why not? This shop offers a wide variety of food, from rice, to noodles and soupy stuff.

i can't seems to find the name of this shop,
can you?

this chili sauce appears in
most of the restaurants in Taiwan

this vege is on every table, it's nice!!

Sour Spicy Soup 酸辣汤

Most of the restaurants in Taiwan sell this soup, we ordered one to try and it taste weird. We don't like it. It's not sour and it's not spicy. Wonder why they called it sour spicy soup!

FL's rice..

FL need to eat rice at least once everyday. So he ordered this. If i'm not mistaken, this is the last plate of rice, so the boss said he will give FL what's left. Erm, can consider this as mixed rice gua. hehe.. taste quite good too!!

my Beef noodle (红烧牛肉)

actually it's not noodle it's more like pan mee

Overall the food here is quite ok, but I feel that the beef noodle I had at the opposite of our hotel is nicer, and cheaper too. The whole meal took us nt 200 (RM 23.50), consider not very cheap also lar.

Pepper Biscuit (福州胡椒饼)

We found this little shop somewhere near our hotel. FL told me this is another "must try" biscuit that is recommended by forumers. Well, since they said "must try", then we try lar..

I am a Hok Chew (福州)
but I never heard about this pepper biscuit before. hehe..

It looks a bit like 'heong beng' (香饼)
except it's slightly bigger.

Pepper Biscuit (福州胡椒饼)
nt 25 (RM 2.90) each

there's pork in it..

It taste good when you eat it while it's still hot. You can taste the pepper in the biscuit as well as in the pork. Not bad lar..

Shanghai Fried Bao (上海生煎包)

Before we decided what to eat for lunch at Keelung-Miao Kou (基隆-庙口), we saw crowds in front of this stall.

Shanghai Fried Bao (上海生煎包)

buy 10 free 1
oo, no wonder so many ppl..

Since there are so many ppl in front of this stall, we decided to try it out before we have our lunch. No lar, we're not going to buy 10 just becos got 1 free lar...

we bought two
one pork (鲜肉包), nt 12 (RM 1.40),
one cabbage(高丽菜包), nt 10 (RM 1.20)

this is the cabbage one, it's nice!

the pork one just normal..

Village Park Restaurant @ Uptown - Best Nasi Lemak in Town??

FL came home one night telling me about the best nasi lemak in town that his friend told him during their yum cha session. Nasi lemak? My favorite!! Where where?

On the same week, I asked him to bring me to try out this best nasi lemak in town.

Village Park Restaurant @ Uptown

If i'm not mistaken, the owner is a Chinese Muslim. You can see besides chinese, there are a lot of malay customers too. We were there about 2pm+ and still, a lot of ppl. We were lucky to get a table for 2.

full house

Menu for drinks

and food

I read about this restaurant at some blogs and they said white coffee is a must try thing..so..we both ordered white coffee lor..

white coffee, RM 2.49 each

We were a bit disappointed after we tried the white coffee. It's not really that nice lar, it's actually kind of tasteless..

Besides nasi lemak, there are a lot of other food. There are even mixed rice where you can mix and match what you want to eat. Lot's of dishes.. I lazy to walk so I ordered from my place..

my nasi lemak ayam, RM 6.80

At first FL wanted to have mixed rice but then he changed his mind and ordered nasi lemak as well. Besides chicken, he added a vegetable.

nasi lemak with vege & chicken, RM 7.80
his one looks nicer right?
well, who ask me to be so lazy.. hehe..

The nasi lemak smells really nice, the chicken is cripsy and nice too. But then again, I will not say it is the BEST nasi lemak in town. I've tried some nicer nasi lemak with a cheaper price at some other place. Our bill adds up to RM 19.40, really not cheap ya...

It's worth to try out, but it's definitely not the best. :)

Yummy lunch at Keelung - Miao Kou (基隆 - 庙口)

I read from the forums that there are lot's of things to eat at Keelung - Miao Kou (基隆 - 庙口) at night. Yes, at night but we were there in the afternoon. Is there any food during day time?

Luckily there are! I don't know how is it like during night time but there are already lot's of food during day time. We finally decided to have our lunch at this stall..

stall no. 28

there are noodles, meehun, rice....

oily rice (油饭)
nt 25 (RM 2.90)

Sorry for the direct translation. hehe.. the "oily rice" (油饭) is actually similar to our sticky rice lar. Taste great! A small bowl like this can be quite full also..

meehun with pork (肉焿米粉)
nt 45 (5.30)

The meehun soup is really nice. You can taste the sweetness of the pork from the soup. A bit expensive though...

Yeliu (野柳) - Stone Flower Drink (海底石花)

This is just beside the Yeliu Geopark (野柳地质公园) exit. Let's see what kind of 'gifts' we can find here.

Gift of Yeliu (野柳特产街)

Most of the stalls sells the same thing,
seaweed lar, fish floss, fish satay lar.. and etc..
I bought a pack of seaweed and 2 bottles of fish floss here.

Then one of the stall owner introduce this to us.
Stone Flower Drink (海底石花)?
What's that?

nt 30(RM 3.50)

It's tasteless. hehe.. And we still don't know what's that.. I think it's something from the sea lar.. :p

The original XXL Chicken at Shilin night market (士林豪大大鸡排)

One thing that you should not miss when you're at the Shilin night market(士林夜市) is to try the original XXL chicken. There were a few stalls there selling XXL chicken but we wanted to try the "real" one. So here we are..

Shilin Hao Da Da (士林豪大大鸡排)

nt 50 (RM 5.90)
I know..
it's so big, smells so nice
and yet so cheap..
that's what you thinking right?

we ordered the spicy one..

We only eat it when we were back to our hotel and surprisingly, it was still crunchy and nice! And yes, it's REALLY very very BIG!! Nice!!

Ai Yu Bing @ Shilin Night Market (爱玉冰@士林夜市)

We're quite thirsty after we had the Big hotdog wrap small hotdog(大肠包小肠) and BIG sausage(大香肠) at Shilin night market(士林夜市). It's time to find something to drink! And we found this little stall...

Ai Yu Bing (爱玉冰)
There are a lot of different flavors 'ai yu bing'
but we decided to take the original one..

nt 30 (RM 3.50) per cup
Nice? Well, it's actually tasteless.
hehe... but at least it quench my thirst. :p

BIG Sausage (大香肠)

What's next after the Big Hotdog wrap Small Hotdog (大肠包小肠) at Shilin night market(士林夜市)? Well well, it's BIG sausage! Taiwan really got a lot of sausage/hotdog related food. hehe.. I wonder will I have sausage phobia after my taiwan trip. hehe..

BIG Sausage (大香肠)

looks yummy..

One BIG sausage is nt 100 (RM 11.75), we both feel it's not good to have so much sausages in a day so we decided to take half, which costs nt 60 (RM 7). not cheap also...

so little only...

It taste better than our normal hotdog but I do not think it's worth that much. RM 7 for a small packet like this... Anyway, it's good to try this out, at least now I can tell ppl that I've tried the BIG BIG sausage/hotdog from taiwan!

Big Hotdog wrap Small Hotdog (大肠包小肠)

Before I post this, I asked my friend, how to translate this to english ar? Big hotdog wrap small hotdog ok or not? Then she said to me, 'chang'(肠) in english should be colon, so it should be "Big colon wrap small colon". wuahahahahahaha... colon a bit geli lar, don't you think so? That is why I decided to just stick back to this.

Ok back to the post. I've heard/seen about this 'Big Hotdog wrap Small Hotdog (大肠包小肠)' from magazine, from friends that been to taiwan, from tv and when I know I'm having this Taiwan trip, I told myself I MUST MUST MUST try this! And I finally got the chance to try it when we were at Shilin night market(士林夜市).

the stall at shilin night market

looks good wor..

Big Hotdog wrap Small Hotdog (大肠包小肠)
nt 45 (RM 5.30)

a closer look

I always thought 'da chang bao xiao chang' is a big hotdog then wrap a small hotdog within. But when I took my first bite, I realised the big hotdog is not really a hotdog. It's glutinous rice!! They make the shape of the glutinous rice exactly the same like hotdog. So now only I know it's actually glutinous rice wrap hotdog. hehe..

The glutinous rice mix well with the hotdog so it actually taste quite good. And maybe becos of the glutinous rice, it's really full after u finished it. Luckily I share with FL, else I don't think my stomach got enough space for other snacks. hehe..

The Gardens ~ Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant (蓬莱茶房台湾料理)

FL and I went to this Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant (蓬莱茶房台湾料理) at The Gardens few months ago, right after we came back from our Taiwan trip. Just came back from Taiwan and yet still find Taiwan food to eat here? Oh ya, that explain how much we missed Taiwan and the food there!!

Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant (蓬莱茶房台湾料理)

If I'm not mistaken, this restaurant is located at the highest level. At first we did not plan to dine here but after we saw the crowd, we decided to try it out!

see, full house!!

have to take no some more..

We did not wait long, about 15 minutes later, they brought us to our seats. Two ppl easier to find place lar..

this is what we ordered..

Hot Taiwan Jasmine OoLong Tea (热台湾茉莉乌龙茶)

if i'm not mistaken, they charged by cup, that is why you can see they stated there 2 cups... The pot is nice, although it looked small but it's NOT!! Refill is free. hehe...

this is really nice, the jasmine smells really nice!!
anybody knows where to get the jasmine ar?

Taiwan Braised Beef Glass Noodle (红烧台湾牛肉冬粉)

I actually wanted noodle but FL ordered wrongly and ordered the glass noodle. I think the noodle will taste better.

each dish comes with this, peanut,
vege and the middle one not sure is what..

the beef noodle is not as good as the one i tried in taiwan,
but still, it's good enough lar..

FL ordered 3 variety supreme dice chicken (3杯鸡套餐)

The chicken looks really nice but I don't like the mint taste. I think they added mint leaves in it. It's quite a big portion.

it comes with rice, soup and the appetizer

I lost the receipt so I can't remember the exact price for this meal. If i'm not mistaken, it took us RM 60+ for this meal. Is it worth to dine there? Well, I think it is lar. The food is quite nice, the environment is nice, the service is good and i think the price is reasonable (The Gardens wor. consider reasonable lor..right?) I definitely will come back again.
