Brown Rice + Red Rice + White Rice

As we all know, white rice is very nice to eat, but it is not very nutritious especially the 'Hiong Mai'(香米). As for red rice, it is also very nice to eat and it's very nutritious and contains high fibre. Brown rice is the most un-tasty among all but it has all the unaltered nutrient goodness. If you want to eat healthy but you are afraid you are not going to get use to the red and brown rice, here's what you can do.

Depend on how many ppl in your family, if you have a small family or your family members does not eat a lot of rice, you can buy smaller packet. Buy 1 or 2 kg of white rice, 1 or 2 kg or brown rice and 1 or 2 kg of red rice, and mix them up. I bought these at Giant.

2kg ecoBrown's Unpolished Brown Rice
(绿康宝糙米), RM 8.49
Sunflower Red Rice (太阳花纯正特选红米),
RM 5.79

Pour in the red rice.

then the brown rice and
followed by the white rice.

mix them up.

Brown + Red + White rice.

So now you will be eating red+brown+white rice. With red and brown rice, you need to add more water when you cook as the red and brown rice are much more harder. Who said brown and red rice are not delicious? It's tasty! Try it out yourself if you don't believe me!

Restoran Yong Tou Foo Chan Chan @ Bandar Manjalara, Kepong

FL and me were driving around looking for a place to have our lunch, late lunch at 4pm. It's really not easy to find food at that time. Besides mamak, we really can't find any chinese stalls selling food. We gave up finding at our place and headed towards Bandar Manjalara. After rounding for about 15 minutes, we found this shop selling yong tau fu. The shop considerws quite full house at this hour. Almost all the tables were occupied. So many ppl having late lunch on Sunday ya. hehe..

Restoran Yong Tau Foo Chan Chan @
Bandar Manjalara Kepong.

We walked in and the first thing I saw was the price stated on the white board. RM 1 per piece. Wow, Rm 1 per piece is considered quite expensive wor.. So far the most expensive Yong Tau Fu I've ever eaten was RM 0.80 per piece at this Ipoh Road Yong Tau Fu @ Wangsa Permai, Kepong. We ordered 2 herbal tea, 7 pieces of Yong Tau Fu and a paper wrap chicken.

their chili sauce is a bit different than
the others Yong Tau Fu shop. It looks a bit like
those bottle maggie chili sauce but in fact, it's
very spicy and nice. I ate a lot. haha...

the paper wrap chicken, looks ugly,
luckily only ordered one.

Rm 3.30 per piece.
totally not worth it, not nice not nice..

We ordered 2 pieces of fried fu zuk (炸腐竹),
they cut it into 4 pieces and 1 fried 'ai gua'.
hmm although their Yong Tao Fu
RM 1 per piece, but it's really
very much bigger!!

can see that two pieces of 'yu wat'(鱼滑) or not?
So big piece, RM 1 worth it lar, hehe.
and one red chili and one 'shui gao'!

7 pieces of Yong Tau Fu = RM 7.00, 2 herbal tea = Rm 3.00, 2 rice = RM 2.00 and 1 paper wrap chicken, Rm 3.30, altogether = RM 15.30. A satisfying and delicious meal!!

Niji Sushi @ Bandar Manjalara, Kepong

We accidentally found this restaurant
when we were rounding Bandar Manjalara
finding food for dinner just now.
We peeped inside and saw there's quite
a lot of ppl, so we decided to try it out.

not much of renovation in the shop,
simple and nice.

soy sauce

green tea, RM 1.30
free refill.

my favourite sushi,
chuka hotate, RM 4
this is soo nice, so far this is
the nicest among all the sushi shop
(sushi king, gengki sushi, sakae sushi, sushi boy)

Spider Temaki (soft shell crab), RM 4
this is also the BEST among all
other sushi shop.
The soft shell crab is still hot and crunchy.
most of the shop when they served us,
the soft shell crab already soft. Yummy!

FL ordered the Wafu Beef Set, RM 19.90.
The beef looks nice and taste nice too!

I ordered the Unagi Set, RM 18.90.
I think they are not very good at
cooking Unagi, it looks nice,
but taste quite 'seng'.
All set comes with chawanmushi, salad,
miso soup and rice.

chawanmushi (steamed egg)
wow, this is very very nice. It's hot
when it's served and till we finished
it's still hot!
This is also the best i've ever ate!!

salad, ya i'm going to say this again..
This is soooo yummy!!
It looks like normal salad rite?
but it doesn't taste normal, it taste superb.
Asked FL, normally i won't finish the salad one..
but this one? haha, i finished it!!

Miso Soup.
This is nice too, cos it's served hot.

rice.

We really enjoyed our dinner here, everything is so tasty (except the unagi.. hehe..). It's better than sushi king, gengki sushi, and it's also better than my EX favourite sushi place, the Sakae Sushi. Ya, sakae sushi is my ex, my current favorite sushi restaurant will be this, Niji Sushi!! Trust me, it's really very nice, the food is fresh, service is good and the price is reasonable too. The total of this meal is RM 51.87 (includes 5% tax)! I definitely will visit this sushi place again, for those sushi lover out there, you definitely must visit this shop. MUST!!!!

Ipoh White Coffee @ Kedai Kopi Sun Yoon Loong

Ipoh is well known of it's delicious food. When we talked about Ipoh, the first thing that you can think of is probably the famous 'nga choy gai' (chicken with bean sprout) and dim sum. Actually besides these, there are some other things that are very nice too. Like wat? White coffee!!

the old town ('gao gai cheong')
旧街场
there are a lot of coffee shop here,
which is the best?

this is the best, the corner shop,
Kedai Kopi Sun Yoon Loong
新源隆茶室
(see the copy cat shop beside or not?
the name almost the same wor..)

see, full house!! no matter what time
you go, it's always full house.

the white coffee, RM 1.30
hmm, it smells really good,
i do not know how to describe how good,
it's totally different from those 3 in 1 white coffee,
and it's also different from the one u had in oldtown white coffee,
you just have to go drink it yourself!

I love the fry 'lo bak gou' or in ipoh they called it 'chao kuih' by an uncle with a bike in front of the coffee shop. Too bad the uncle was not there the other day...Don't miss the white coffee ya if you go to Ipoh, remember, this is the best shop, don't go to the wrong shop!!

Easy to prepare Chicken Rice with Lap Cheong

Well, the subject might be a bit misleading, this is not the "real" chicken rice! It is actually chicken cooked together with rice. So in short Chicken rice. haha... Let's see what we need..

chicken, seasoned a day before.
seasoned with sesame oil, ginger,
oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, little bit of sugar
and light soy sauce.

long beans (长豆)

2 lap cheong (腊肠)

cook rice as usual...

when the water boils,
pour in the chicken and long beans.

stir evenly and cover up the rice cooker.
let it cooked together with the rice.

when the rice is ready,
pour in the lap cheong. cover the rice cooker
and wait for another 10-15 minutes.

ready to be served.
oh ya, the egg is from my colleague,
the full moon's red egg. hehe.

Yee Hup Chicken Flavour Biscuit (余合鸡仔饼)

I used to like 'gai zai beng'(鸡仔饼) a lot.
I remembered wherever ppl travel to ipoh or perak,
they will sure buy back these pink color packet 'gai zai beng'.
I wanted to buy the original pink color 'gai zai beng' but the
sales person kept asking me to try their own brand,
Yee Hup Chicken Flavour Biscuit (余合鸡仔饼),
so i bought a packet to try, RM 2.80 per packet,
RM 10 for 4 packets.

hmm, 'gai zai beng' like this one meh?
i remembered last time one bigger piece wor..
but of cos, the last time i ate 'gai zai beng' was..
dono how many years ago, so maybe with
the price of the flour and sugar and oil increasing,
the biscuit becomes so small lor...
there's only about 10 pieces in one packet.
quite expensive hor..

it taste, okie.. ya, okie only..
hmm, should have bought the original
pink color packet one..
not all new stuff are nice though..

Gunung Rapat Hiong Piah from Yee Hup Bakery (余合昆仑喇叭香饼)

I love eating 'hiong beng' since i was a little girl. I thought the nicest and famous 'hiong beng' are from Penang till I ate the 'hiong beng' from Ipoh. Nothing else can beat the Ipoh Hiong Beng from Yee Hup. I fell for it after i ate it 7 yrs ago. That time they were selling one packet for RM 3.50 only and there's two different type, one is hiong beng, another one they called it 'pong beng'(碰饼). Hiong Beng are bigger where else 'pong beng' are slightly smaller and less sweet. I prefer 'pong beng' but don't know why they stopped baking 'pong beng' few years ago. So now we can only get 'hiong beng' from the shop!

If you've been to ipoh, you definitely heard ppl
mentioned this before, the Gunung Rapat Hiong Piah
(余合昆仑喇叭香饼), RM 6 per packet (10 pcs per packet)

smells very nice! it's baked using charcoal.
(炭烧香饼)

it's fresh, crunchy, no preservatives & colouring.

for those that have not tried before,
it is something that you must buy if
you go Ipoh. trust me, it's really
worth buying it! NICE!!

Subway Sandwiches & Salads @ Dataran Glomac, Kelana Jaya

Me and my colleagues decided to go try this newly opened Subway Sandwiches & Salads near our office. This is not the first time I ate in Subway but this is definitely the first time i tried their sandwich. I remembered i went to this Subway (forgot where..hehe..) before but i ordered fish & chips and not sandwich. So basically, this is still my first visit lar, if dun take that fish & chips into consideration.

We finally decided what to eat after staring at the menu for about 10 minutes. I ordered the Tuna Sandwich. You probably will asked why eat tuna, haha, i don't know wat to order leh, and tuna is not that expensive lar. :p There are 6 of us and each of us ordered a different sandwich. I too busy eating mine so didn't manage to take pictures on their sandwiches. :p

I was the first to order, when the staff asked me 'you want 6 inches or foot long'? i asked her, which one is the shorter one? wuahahaahhaa, stupid question rite? well, i just want to make sure mar. She didn't answer my question, just kept repeating the question, 6 inches or footlong. Finally she decided to show me the 6 inches one and the footlong one. So the answer to my question would be, 6 inches is the smaller and shorter one. :p There are 5 different types of bread to choose from, i picked the wholemeal.

after choosing the bread, added the tuna
and toasted the bread in the oven,
the staff busy stuffing vege into my sandwich.
i said i wanted ALL vege except the onion!!
there are cucumber, tomato, cabbage,
olive, green chili and...forgot. :p

see that's mine!! ahahahhaha..
for the sauce, i asked for bbq sauce,
mayonnaise & chili sauce!
the guy in front of me actually asked them to add
vinegar and salt! first time i heard ppl
add vinegar to their sandwich!! i wonder how it taste!

here's my tuna sandwich, nicely wrapped!
tuna sandwich, RM 9.80.

i added another RM 3.50 to get the set
which comes with a soft drink & a packet
of chips. If you add another RM1, you can
have free refills for your soft drink.

my 6 inches tuna sandwich.
ya i know it doesn't looks very nice,
well after wrap and unwrap sure become like this lar,
what you aspect? hehe.. strange to have bread with
the green chili rite? weird but it taste quite ok.
The tuna really a lot, she gave me
two scoops (ice cream scoops) of tuna.
I feel like i'm eating the whole tin of tuna..

My lunch took me RM 13.30. The tuna bread, RM 9.80 and the drinks and chips for RM 3.50. No additional tax. The bread is really nice, soft and nice. Tuna a lot, vege are all very fresh. Took me a while to finish that bread, cos it's very long and big. luckily my mouth also not small, else don't know how to eat also lar. hehe.. next time i gonna try others!!
