Ipoh Food ~ Dai Gao Min (大旧面)

Before I post this post, I did ask my friend, ws, how to write 'dai gao min' in chinese. I wanted to write it as 大块面 'dai fai min' but then she said it will become 'fai' instead of 'gao', so she advise me to use '旧'. Sounds a bit weird also lar, aiyar, nvm lar, as long as you understand...

I don't really like 'dai gao min', bought a few times @ pasar malam, all not nice one.. UNTIL FL introduce me to the Ipoh's 'dai gao min'. Oh my, it's really NICE!!

Restoran Ketam Steamboat Seafood @ Kepong Manjalara (吉胆鱼村海鲜生锅)

Before I moved to Kepong, a lot of my friends told me Kepong is famous of their Bak Kut Teh and Steamboat. Well, I've tried the famous Bak kut teh (Ka Ka) and it taste quite good, but steamboat? So far i tried two different steamboat restaurants (Ho Ho Steamboat Restaurant (好好海鲜火锅之家) @ Manjalara, Restoran Hao Ji Seafood Steamboat(好记海鲜火锅) @ Kepong) but I don't feel it's that nice. I asked around and realized I went to the wrong steamboat restaurant!

So which one is the best? According to some of my friends, the best steamboat in Kepong is at the Manjalara. I went to seek for it and realized there are a lot of steamboat restaurants there, but only one with LOT's of ppl, so i guess, this is the one..

Restoran Ketam Steamboat Seafood @ Kepong Manjalara
(吉胆鱼村海鲜生锅)

I was there on Tuesday at about 7pm+. There are a few tables occupied and guess what, 10 minutes after i placed my order, the restaurants is FULLY occupied. WOW!! Luckily I was there 10 minutes earlier!! My friends also asked to me to try the chicken wings, MUST try.. so I ordered 2 pieces of chicken wing. (that chicken wing boss really action wor.. maybe business really good!!)

2 pieces of chicken wing, RM 2 each

The chicken wings really taste good but the best is the chili sauce!! Wow, no wonder the boss can be so action lar. Almost every table will order chicken wings from him!!

two types of chili..

red one a bit sour, green one a bit sweet.
i prefer the red one..

we ordered the set for 2,
RM 14.80 per person

as for the soup, we asked for 'yun yong',
chicken soup + tom yam soup

both soup taste great!!

not sure can we say dowan this.
it's RM 0.30 each!!

So with the set, the drinks (we ordered a pot of chinese tea, RM 2.30), the towel and 5% gov tax, our bill = RM 32.50!! Is this the famous steamboat in Kepong? I hope it is lar, even it's not, i enjoyed my meal here. Will definitely visit this steamboat restaurant again!!

Ipoh Food - Hor Hee (河喜)

Have you heard of Hor Hee (河喜)? Well, if you are from Ipoh, then I guess you've heard before. But if you are from somewhere else, I don't think you have heard this. When FL first told me about Hor Hee, I was like, huh, what's that? So funny one the name.. Hor Hee is not really cantonese also, hor is cantonese but hee is not right?

So wat's hor hee?

Hor Hee, RM 3 per bowl

Only after I tried hor hee, only i know hor hee is actually just like the 'hee kiaw mee' in hokkien (if you from malacca than you should know hee kiaw mee). You can opt for kuey tiaw, or mee hun, or mee and even 'dong fun'. There are fish ball, fish cake, tau ge and the soup taste really nice. If you happened to go Ipoh, you should really try this out. You will love it!

Kaki Corner @ Cheras

I still remembered the first time my friends brought me to this shop, kaki corner. It's not really a shop back then, it's just a rumah papan at the road side. When we were there, I was shocked becos we were given a number to wait. Yes, can you imagine that? A lot of ppl queue up at the road side holding a number...So what kind of food do they served? Western food...

That was the first time I went to this kaki corner. My impression to this kaki corner was good, very good in fact, things were cheap, food is nice..The second time (a few months later) I went with another group of my friends, and this time, no more rumah papan. They rented a shop lot opposite the tesco extra (it's makro last time), the food is still cheap and nice, the only difference is it's much bigger and there's plenty of seats.

I visit this kaki corner quite often, until i moved out from Puchong. So last weekend, when I went to my friend's house @ Cheras, I decided to go have dinner at this kaki corner.

Kaki corner
there are a lot of western food restaurants along the street
but kaki corner has the most customers.

Besides western food, there's some other food too. All at reasonable price.

if you need service or the bill, you can press this thing

we ordered a large honey dew, RM 5.80

mushroom soup, RM 2.50
cheap rite?

Chicken Maryland, Rm 10.80

I tried a few dishes at Kaki Corner but I still feel this Chicken Maryland is the best. It's cheap, very big in portion (i can't even finish this!), very worth to eat!! With 5% gov tax and 5% service charge, our bill = RM 32.90. Very full and satisfying meal. Must try if you happened to go there.

I need more calcium!

I consider myself as a heavy coffee drinker. I drink 2 cups per day, sometimes more (i tried not to have more than 2 lar..)! One of the cons when you have too much coffee is that, it will kill your calcium (that is why better not to drink when you're pregnant)! Since i'm drinking so many cups per day, I have to find ways to gain back my calcium.

The easiest way will be, take those calcium pills lor.. But then again, I've heard someone said that gals are not advisable to take calcium pills because of dono what.. (sorry i forgot..) so how? milk powder? anlene? yeah.. milk powder is good, but I hate milk powders...

If you are like me, hate milk powders, then maybe you should try this. Drink the milk powder together with milo. trust me, the milo can get rid of the milk powder and you can't really taste the milk powder. In fact, now i prefer milo with milk powder!! Yummy yummy!

Cook with all the left overs in your fridge.

If you asked me what am I going to cook tonight, my answer to you will be, I don't know. How come? Well, I have to go back home, open up my fridge, see what are the left overs, then only decide what to cook. You know this vege can't keep for long, you know you have bought this for quite some time, so how? Cook it all lar. The easiest way is to fry rice, cut everything into small pieces, and throw everything inside. wuahahahahahahaa..

It taste good and you don't need to waste any food. Good idea rite? :p
