Yummy Yummy Tong Yuen (汤圆)

Today is a very important traditional Chinese festival, the 'Dong Zhi' (冬至). A lot of ppl doesn't know what the festival means but almost everyone knows on this day we will need to eat 'tong yuen' (汤圆). hehe..

I did not make the 'tong yuen' myself this year, no time, but I did bought a packet of ready made Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Ball from Carrefour. Hopefully it's nice la, never tried before.

RM 2.99 per packet

there's 10 inside. hmm, one for RM 0.29,
quite cheap wor if compared to the one in
'gei dak sek', RM 1 for one.

I keep the glutinous rice ball in the freezer. You don't need to defrost it before you cook, just put into the boiling water will do. Hmm, very convenient. Besides the glutinous rice balls, we need some other ingredients to prepare the soup.

ginger, pandan leaves and
rock sugar.

put in the ginger into a pot filled with water.
Boil it.

let it boil(10-20 minutes) for a while so that we
can have more ginger taste
in the soup.

While the soup is boiling,
prepare another pot with water.
When the water boils, put in all the
glutinous rice balls.

remember to use the laddle to stir to
make sure the rice balls won't stick to the pot.
(use a non stick pot is better)

it is ready to be served when you
see the rice balls float.
let's go back to our soup.

after boiling for 15-20 minutes, add in the
pandan leaves and rock sugar.

the black sesame glutinous rice balls
with ginger soup.
(looks like fish balls right? hehe..)

hmmm, smooth and nice..

a lot of black sesame...
hmmmm... nice..
i think i will try the other flavour next time.
(red bean, peanut and black sesame)
Happy 'Dong Zhi' to you!!
